Image
Description
R&B vocalist Hank Ballard smiles as he snaps his fingers at shoulder height and lifts his right knee on the right side of the photograph as Syd Nathan sits on a tall stool smiling to his left at Hank as he holds a cigar in his left hand which also has a large ring on the ring finger. Behind the two men are lights and microphones. Printed in the margin above the photograph, "The Cash Box, Volume XXII--Number 2. September 24, 1960." Printed in the margin below the photograph, "Syd Nathan, president of King Records, watches Hank Ballard as the artists displays his winning "finger-poppin" technique. "Finger Poppin' Time" is the title of one of the country's biggest pop teenage hits which Ballard and the Midnighters recorded under the King banner. Ballard has been turning out one hit after another, hitting consistently in R & B. "Finger Poppin' Time" establishes Ballard as a pop threat. The Ballard-Midnighters combo has four albums available on King. His latest single is "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" b/w "If You'd Forgive Me."
