The Joseph K. Redmond Collection is rich in images reflecting Kansas City's theatrical legacy. Redmond was a theatre manager for the Uptown and Tower theatres in Kansas City, and he collected material about local theaters, both movie and stage.

Crowd lined up to see Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" outside the Esquire Theatre, 211 E. 12th St., Kansas City, Mo. Note attached to photo: 57 years ago today, August 19th, on my 25th birthday, I opened a new, downtown movie theater, the Fox Esquire with the historic, 20th Century-Fox musical, "Alexander's Ragtime Band". Opening day ticket line was a block long! Women wore hats then... even in the summertime! (so did some men).
