Lobby Christmas party for the children

Description
Christmas party in the lobby of Children's Mercy Hospital for the patients (all white boys and girls except for one African American child). Nurse Iris Jensen is standing behind the children, many of who are in wheelchairs and leg braces. Cribs with children are in the background. Rows of tinsel are hanging from the ceiling and other adults (African American and white women) are seen around the room. Teacher Ruby Bales is also among the adults in the room.

Handwritten note on verso: Lobby xmas party-- Nurse- Iris Jensen Rn- HN on orthopedics & later night supervisor; about 1954 because the oak frame around area where Mrs. Jensen is was the old switchboard. The window was later closed in & made into an office. Mrs. Ruby Bales, PBX operator can barely be seen. Mrs. Marylane Thorne (seated to the left of foreground ladies arm) taught school for many years at CMH. Gelatin silver print.
